Shopping with my Girlfriend

There comes a time in any relationship where things start to get serious.  Now, I’m not talking about the birds and the bees, marriage or kids.

Nothing that extreme.

What I am talking about is when you start doing things together that couples would do.  This is a step forward from having coffee and going to movies and these situations provide opportunities for you to talk and really develop your relationship.  Personally, I’ve done this with about five women over the last few years and these moments really give you insight as to whether or not you will be moving forward with the person that you are with.

For example, Jennifer and I were out shopping this weekend and she was looking at kitchen aprons for her grandmother.  I learned that she came from a long line of bakers and that her grandmother made the best cinnamon buns.  She shared that she had the recipe and that she would make some for me at some point in the near future (we were on date five after all – no rush).  I appreciated that she valued tradition, loved baking (just like I did) and I would say that today we really hit it off.

We have a lot more in common than I would have thought – I’m looking forward to date number six this weekend.

Working on a Mold Remediation Project

Last weekend I found something disturbing in my house: black mold.   I had never noticed it before, but after the high humidity and moisture that we had this year, it really should have come as no surprise.  It was in a corner of the basement that I never looked at, so I am sure that it went unnoticed for months.

But now that I have found it, I need to do something about it.  Thankfully I have some experience with mold remediation thanks to a summer job that I had years ago.  I am no expert by any means, but I know how to handle it, so I am going to try to deal with it on my own.

It will be my weekend project.

Before I get started, I am heading down to the local hardware store to get the necessary supplies to get the job done.  I am keenly aware that I need gear that ensures that I don’t breathe in any mold spores as well as some kind of solution to seal the mold into the drywall.  I’m sure that I am forgetting something, so I am hoping that the employees down at the store will be some help.

Hopefully I will be able to clean up the mold over the course of the weekend.  I’ll feel a lot better when it is done.

Reflecting on Past Summer Jobs

I don’t know if you ever take the time to reflect on where you have been in life, but from time to time, I do.  It is good to look back to see where we have been and where we are going, and by taking a stroll down memory lane, you really appreciate where you are at the present time.  At least that is how it has worked for me, and it serves as a means of motivation to get me going when I feel that I am out of energy.

I found myself daydreaming between classes today thinking about the jobs I have had over the last few years.  They have shaped me into the person I am today, and there are times in my life where I use the skills that I developed at them.  If you were to look at my resume, you would see a broad tapestry of jobs, from working in water damage restoration valencia, to flipping burgers in a McDonalds in L.A., to my few days working in a pig barn.

I know that you might think that some of these jobs didn’t give me the skills I needed to pursue my college degree, but I look at it this way: those jobs that I didn’t like taught me what I was not looking for in a career.

While I need to reflect on my life from time to time, there is always something to bring me back to the present – like my new job I am starting tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Picking Out New Windows Monday

While I might be grown up and off to college, I make sure to take care of my parents when I can.  They raised me and took care of me when I needed it, and the least that I can do is take care of them as well.  So from time to time I head out to their home and work on the list of chores that they have for me to do.

Which is exactly what I am going to do on Monday.

My parents have been talking for some time now that they want to replace the windows on their home, but they just don’t know exactly which ones to buy.  They are always worried that they will pay too much and they count on me to find them a good price on just about everything.  The trick that I use is the internet as it makes it easy to research prices from many companies in the area and find them the best deals.

For the last few days I have been doing research on companies that offer windows in Glendale, and I think I found one that will work perfectly for them.  We are going to check out their store on Monday and hopefully get everything ordered and lined up to be installed.

It will be nice for them to get the windows done before winter rolls around.

Starting my New Job this Weekend

My New CustomerThe life of a college kid would not be complete without adding a job to an already overloaded workload provided by school.  But here I am, putting extra work on my plate so that I can have some spending money while at school.  You would think that I would have been smart and worked a little harder during the school year, but unfortunately, I didn’t.

Thankfully my job search didn’t take more than a month and I was able to find a job that is not too far off of campus.  I know that a lot of my friends are still looking for work, so I am not going to complain about working at a dog grooming studio.

It is better than nothing.

I start my new job tomorrow when I go in for training at 9 AM, and I am told that they will be giving me a couple of groomers aprons to wear while at work.  I am supposed to take these home on my days off to wash them, so I hope that I will be able to fit them into the one load of laundry that I do each week.

I don’t have any time to do more laundry or anything else thanks to school.

On that note, I should probably eat some supper, do a little studying and head off to bed – I don’t want to be late for my first day of work tomorrow.
